Ballarat hosted the second round of the Victorian Cyclocross Series for the first time in wet and windy conditions at the Ballarat Showgrounds on Saturday.

Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club’s Paul Crack said despite the weather about 240 adults and 30 children participated.
“When the first race started it was relatively dry, but towards the next race it started to rain and it made the course go from firm, dry and reasonably easy to navigate, to quite slippery,” Crack said.
“It just added a little bit of difficulty to the race, but they (the competitors) enjoy that.”
The best performing Ballarat rider was Nina Kerr, who won the women’s B grade.
The event also marked the first time the series had been held under lights.
“The feedback was that it was awesome and everyone had a great time and thought the set up was good,” Crack said.
“Part of our course was through a shed, and we had some music going, and a smoke machine and laser lights created a bit of a party atmosphere within the shed.”
Ballarat Sebastopol Cycling Club hopes to host the event again next year and will debrief with Cycling Victoria in the coming weeks.
