A magistrate has told a Ballarat teenager that he “would not survive” in adult jail.
Dylan Lewis, 18, appeared in the Ballarat Magistrates Court yesterday, where he pleaded guilty to a number of charges, including burglary and assaulting police.
Magistrate Richard Pithouse sentenced Lewis to a 12-month community corrections order, but warned him about committing further crimes and going to prison.
“If you muck up, you’re automatically eligible for three months jail. Not youth detention – adult jail,” he told Lewis.
“You’d be eaten alive (in adult jail)...you would not survive.”
“You’re out of control and you have to stop.”
