Although the title defence was nearly over before it began as a late withdrawal saw the team drop to four members – with five required for a team.
However, it rounded up a replacement at late notice and went through the competition undefeated – an outstanding effort given the side had no substitutes.
Mount Clear College won through the five-match round robin stage to finish on top of its group. The top four teams of each group then played crossover quarter-finals – MCC again won comfortably. It continued its strong form in the semi-final, to set-up what would prove a thrilling grand final.
Mount Clear College took on St Joseph’s College and trailed five points to three with five minutes remaining. MCC then scored four straight points to clutch a 7-5 victory.
The team was made up of Tom Boyle, James Walker, Nathan Collins, Matt Reyne (late inclusion) and Liam Carroll.
