I would much rather see kids casting a line that sitting at home on an I-pad.
- Jaala Pulford - Western Victoria MP
St Georges in Creswick, the Cosgrave Reservoir and the Dean Reservoir all took a share of the brown and rainbow trout, which were added as part of the state government’s fish restocking program.
St Georges and the Cosgrave Reservoir both received 1000 brown and rainbow trout, while the Dean Reservoir received 500 of each.
Western Victoria MP Jaala Pulford said the boosted numbers were part of the government’s $46 million project to get one million people fishing by 2020.
“Fishing is such an important recreational activity for many Victorians and I would much rather see kids casting a line that sitting at home on an I-pad,” Ms Pulford said.
“Improving fishing opportunities in waterways...is a great way to attract newcomers to fishing and grow participation in regional communities.”
Between now and July a further 200 rainbow trout will also be put in Calembeen Front Lake in Creswick, Jubilee Lake in Daylesford, Glenlyon Dam and Quarry Street Reserve Lane in Trentham.
