Leading Senior Constable Travis Johnson said she first started driving erratically about 4pm on Main Road in Golden Point, winding her way through Sebastopol before she crashed at the intersection of Sutton and Hertford streets about 4.30pm.
The woman, believed to be in her 30s, was suspected of driving while intoxicated or drug-affected.
She was taken to hospital for assessment by police.
“We’re looking at impaired driving,” Leading Senior Constable Johnson said.
“She hit four or five parked cars and one moving vehicle.”
Police remained at the busy intersection to interview another male driver who had stopped after the incident outside a mechanic shop.
The woman’s heavily damaged dark blue Mitsubis Lancer remained on scene.
A tow truck arrived but police directed it to wait as they inspected the vehicle.
Traffic was directed by police temporarily at the intersection.
