Three men have been charged with 36 offences a piece following a string of break-ins at Bacchus Marsh and Ballan overnight.
The men have been remanded in custody to face charges of burglary and theft at Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The men robbed five shops at Ballan and five at Bacchus Marsh before they were apprehended at 5.30am on Monday.
They have also been linked to five burglaries at Bannockburn on June 8, and several burglaries in Geelong on the same day.
EARLIER:
Three men in hoods could face charges for a crime spree which stretched from Bacchus Marsh to Geelong, police said.
Three men are in custody in Geelong following more than a dozen break-ins, including five at Bacchus Marsh and five on Ballan’s main street.
Bacchus Marsh Acting Detective Sergeant John Hageman said the three men were being interviewed in relation to burglaries at Ballan, Darley, Bacchus Marsh overnight on Sunday and burglaries at Bannockburn and Geelong last week.
They were arrested at 5.30am on Monday after leaving a stolen car, he said.
The men kicked in shop doors and windows along Bacchus Marsh, Darley and Ballan main streets.
Acting Detective Sergeant Hageman said the men appeared to have been targeting cash and only hit commercial premises. They also stole cigarettes and alcohol.
”Most of the entries in the main street have been through kicking down the front glass doors. There were four shops in a row and then one across the road (at Bacchus Marsh) just a lot of damage, a lot of broken glass,” he said.
