About 50 students are involved in the school’s annual musical production at Her Majesty’s Theatre, this year telling the familiar story of High School Musical.
After a rigorous day of rehearsals, the production kicks off tomorrow morning with a matinee performance for 450 local primary school children.
“The students have been asking for a very long time to do High School Musical so we gave in and they’ve all been super-engaged,” said Phoenix College head of arts Alex Patterson.
Students and staff have given up hours after school and on weekends since the start of the year to develop, rehearse and polish the performance ahead of today’s debut.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity for the students – they get to be in a musical singing, dancing, acting and working in a team. You see how much they progress during the six months working together on the show.”
High School Musical is on Thursday and Friday at Her Majesty’s Theatre. Tickets at hermaj.com or at the door.
