Concerned motorists reported the B-double truck to police shortly before 7pm. The driver was heading north on the freeway near Seymour, about 100 kilometres north of Melbourne.

"Police attempted to intercept the driver and after about five kilometres, the driver stopped," Victoria Police spokeswoman Hannah Rowlands said.

The 64-year-old driver from New South Wales returned a breath test reading of 0.139 per cent.

He is expected to be charged on summons with drink-driving offences.

Sergeant Geoff Shaw thanked other drivers on the road for reporting the truck to police.

"We appreciate motorists taking the time to report the incident and thereby ensuring their own safety and the safety of other motorists," Sergeant Shaw said.

In Frankston, a 25-year-old man with three passengers in his car was caught drink driving and speeding in the early hours of Sunday.

Highway patrol officers detected the man driving at 111km/h, more than 30 kilometres over the speed limit, on Frankston-Dandenong Road about 3am.

He returned a breath test reading of 0.151 per cent and had his licence immediately suspended.

His car was also impounded for 30 days and he is expected to be charged on summons with drink driving offences.
