The Lakers defeated the third-placed Ballarat Swans by 39 points in a round seven clash at CE Brown Reserve in Wendouree on Sunday.
Lakers coach Matt Newbury said it was one of the first times the team had really been tested.
“It was good to see we could withstand a bit of a challenge and still apply our game style,” Newbury said.
“I thought we brought teammates into the play by handball and then kicked to some good areas. Our skill level is increasing – we are starting to take a lot more marks and hit more targets by hand and foot.”
He said the team played an open and free flowing style of football and focused on team-oriented play, using space and creating opportunities for run and carry.
While Newbury was happy with the season so far with his players rewarded for effort, he said there was still room for improvement.
