Commuters on the 16.54 Southern Cross to Wendouree service were forced to get off at Sunshine due to a fault, where they were required to wait for the next available service.
The 17.10 Southern Cross to Wendouree express service, which was also delayed due to the break down, continued on past the waiting passengers at Sunshine despite V/Line’s official Twitter page advising passengers to board the express train.
As of 6.38pm as many as 40 passengers were waiting for coaches to arrive at Sunshine to continue the journey to Ballarat.
Other commuters opted to take the 17.59 Southern Cross to Bacchus Marsh train, which was also running late, with the intention of then continuing on another service back to Ballarat.
EARLIER: Ballarat Commuters annoyed at having to catch a bus instead of the normal train to Melbourne have some idiot vandals to thanks for their delays.
Multiple services in both directions have been transferred to coaches after a car was left abandoned on the tracks near Ballan.
V/Line reported early morning services to Melbourne including the 6.10am to Southern Cross needed to be transferred by bus to Ballan in order to avoid the obstruction.
According to V/line emergency services managed to clear the burnt-out car but the backlog caused further delays on the line.
It also reported trains as late as the 10:17 Southern Cross - Wendouree would not run today due to the earlier act of “vandalism” and were replaced by coaches.
