Grammar advanced into the Herald Sun Shield semi-final with a 25-point win over Loreto College in Thursday’s Ballarat Associated Schools girl’s football grand final. If it can win through to the HSS grand final, an MCG berth awaits.
Grammar led from start to finish and looked the more accomplished side over the four quarters. Loreto kicked its first goal in the final term, which was quickly followed by another two late ones. Grammar taking a 6.9 (45) – 3.2 (20) win on home turf.
The victory marks Grammar’s fourth consecutive BAS triumph.
Coach Matt Hanlon felt the win showcased its depth given it was without some key players.
“It’s a bit nerve-racking when you can’t have your full team on, but to win like that was a good sign of depth,” Hanlon said.
It is a nice little carrot, to see if we can get out on to the MCG.

“We’ve got to savour this...but it is a nice little carrot, to see if we can get out on to the MCG.”
The semi-final will be played on July 25 in Craigieburn, with the opponent yet to be decided. If it wins it will face either Sacred Heart or Melbourne Girls Grammar in the grand final.
