It won the second grade premiership last season with an 84-run win over the now promoted Buninyong.
The BCA announced last week that Buninyong would become the tenth team in the first grade as of 2018-19.
VRI Delacombe president James Westbrook said his club was not ready to take the significant leap to the firsts, but said it was definitely in its five-year plan.
“We didn’t put our hand up (for 2018-19), but it’s something we’re definitely looking towards doing in the next five years,” Westbrook said.
Westbrook said while it claimed the seconds premiership, it still needed to strengthen its overall depth to ensure that when it does put in a bid to play firsts, it can be sustainable across all grades.
“We’ve still got a lot of list management to do.
“We need to add a bit of depth to the teams before we look at that.
“We don’t want to take that step and regret it, we want to make sure we’re ready before we do it.”
The instalment of a turf wicket would also be something VRI Delacombe will look to explore.
“We don’t have a turf wicket at the moment either.
“We need to look at whether we can use one or get one at our ground.”
