Powercor is now expecting to restore power to homes in Beaufort and surrounding areas by 2am Tuesday.
More than a thousand homes are without power after a car crashed into a power pole on the Western Highway.
EARLIER:
A highway crash at Beaufort has brought traffic to a standstill and cut power to thousands of homes.
A car went into a pole at the corner of the Western Highway and Racecourse Road, police said.
Powercor’s website has listed an estimated restoration time of 8pm. More than 1000 homes at Beaufort and surrounds are listed as without power.
The road is blocked by downed power lines. It does not appear that the driver was injured.
Emergency services are at the scene.
