Olver, who is in his second season at the helm, told The Courier the time was right for a fresh face to take over the position.
“I just feel I’ve been around the club that long it’s probably time we do refresh ourselves and look at other options,” Olver said.
“Otherwise we won’t evolve as a club.”
A front-runner for the job appears to be Johno Leoncini, who joined the Burras as an assistant coach this season.
Earlier this year, Olver revealed a succession plan which he anticipated would see Leoncini become senior coach when he was ready to take over the reins.
Olver said the position will be advertised, as required in the club’s constitution.
“That will happen and people who are interested in coaching the club in 2018 can send their resumes in or get in contact with the club,” Olver said.
“We are always around the mark, pushing deep into the finals. It’s a good job for someone to take on if they want to be serious about their coaching.”
Olver has held a number of different coaching jobs at the club and was former senior coach Shane Robertson’s right hand man during a glittering period in the club’s history. The pair helped steer the Burras to premierships in 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2010.
The 47-year-old is also a past player and former president of the club.
Olver looks a good chance to end his coaching stint in style, with the Burras well poised for a shot at the 2017 flag.
Hepburn has won its last eight matches to be third on the ladder moving into the league-wide break this weekend.
The Burras also have a good run home, with a bye and just one match against a current top eight side before the finals series.
Hepburn has a fixture against lowly Skipton in round 12.
