They were all a part of the school’s annual production Bamboo, which music teacher Dave Allen wrote based on a Japanese folk tale called The Bamboo Keeper and the Moonlight Princess.
Daytime performances to local primary school students and a two-night season in the school’s auditorium saw more than 1500 people enjoy the show.
Mr Allen said about 30 students from all year levels mastered the script during an intense 10-week rehearsal period, with other students involved in the school band and technical and production roles.
Mr Allen said students involved in the performances gained more than they realised from the experience.
“It’s creating a culture within the school and it does engage kids in a really different activity. They are doing a lot of learning and really growing in confidence throughout the show, and it’s great to see a real mix of kids coming together.”
The final performance of Bamboo takes place at 7pm tonight at Ballarat Secondary College Mount Rowan Campus.
