Ballarat City made the best of a “not ideal” situation to score the only goal of Wednesday’s rescheduled finish with Northcote City. Fog stopped the match on June 10 just after the hour mark, with Northcote leading 3-0. After much deliberation the two teams played out the final 30 minutes of the match which ended with the visitors winning 3-1.
As expected, Northcote came with the mindset of holding onto its lead while Ballarat had no choice but to “throw things around”. It played minimal men behind the ball while Northcote played ultra-defensively. Ballarat created plenty of chances given the manner the game was played in, but could only score in the final five minutes as David King found the back of the net.
Coach Danny Gnjidic was pleased with how his side approached the game, but felt the handling of the unique circumstance could’ve been better.
“We wanted to make the best of it and we did,” he said.
“We did what we had to do, it wasn’t an ideal situation.”
Ballarat now plays Nunawading City on Sunday.
