Trigger played a central role in the Warriors dramatic penalty shootout win over Bentleigh Greens in the Dockerty Cup Final on Wednesday.
The victory created a piece of history for Heidelberg – it was the first time they had claimed the Dockerty Cup in their 59-year existence as a club. Trigger told The Courier that while he was happy with his own match, the most important thing was getting the win.
“I played okay, but the most important thing in any cup final is to obviously win and that is what we did. It was really important for us as players to get the job done for everyone at the club, and we really felt like we had done that after the final whistle,” Trigger said.
Trigger played around 70 minutes in an attacking midfield role before being substituted - meaning he did not have to endure the nervousness of taking a penalty in the shootout - which the Warriors won 5-4, thanks to the heroics of goalkeeper Chris Theodoridis.
Trigger has proved to be a valuable addition to the Heidelberg midfield since joining on a mid-season transfer from Ballarat City, playing five matches.
Trigger says he has relished the step up from division two of the NPL to division one. “I saw the move as a good opportunity to grow my game and win trophy’s such as the Dockerty Cup.”
