Ballarat Turf Club is paying tribute to her contribution by naming the first race at Thursday’s race meeting in her honour.
She was the wife of the late Eric Tonks, who was the wife of long serving BTC, and Burrumbeet Park and Windermere Racing Club secretary.
Wendy was also a racing administrator in her own right as Ballan Jockey Club secretary for many years, as well as being a prominent at Dowling Forest and Burrumbeet alongside Eric.
She died on Saturday at the age of 81 years.
The BTC honours the the family with the running of the feature open sprint, the Tonks Plate, each Ballarat Cup Day.
