BFUA will provide development opportunities for the duo and they are expected to umpire some matches in the junior ranks. BFUA operations manager Gary Learmonth was excited to further grow the connection with the game overseas. Learmonth first visited South Africa 12 years ago when there was just one competition – there is now around 10,000 people participating.
“We’ve seen the players come through – David Rodan. Hopefully he gives people who can’t play the game another avenue to get involved,” Learmonth said.
“This is an exciting opportunity to host two officials from a different cultural background...we hope to pass on valuable experience to help them become better umpires.”
The AFL International Cup runs from August 6-19.
