The upgrades feature significant oval works, including a new automatic underground irrigation system and new drainage, as well as a new netball court and an upgrade to the kitchen and canteen facilities.
City of Ballarat provided funding of $250,000 for oval irrigation and drainage works, with the state government contributing $50,000 from its Community Sports Infrastructure Fund.
City of Ballarat also provided $240,000 from its Sport and Active Living capital expenditure program to fully fund the new netball court. A City of Ballarat Community Impact Grant Program contribution of $6,000, coupled with significant financial support and donations of time and labour from sporting club members, helped complete the kitchen and canteen upgrade.
The Western Oval surface upgrade was completed by Pitchcraft Pty Ltd, which has delivered similar high-quality projects at C.E. Brown Reserve, Alfredton Recreation Reserve and Northern Oval 2 over the past two years.
Searle Bros carried out the works on the netball court.
At the end of this year’s football season, lighting and power at the venue will also be upgraded.
