The Ballarat-based regional academy is combining with the Ballarat Sportsmen’s Club to run the awards night at Ballarat Golf Club on Wednesday, August 2.
Fifteen finalists are in contention for the new awards.
FedUni WestVic Academy of Sport executive officer Rob Ward said a male and female would recognised.
Ward said a finalist had been nominated from each academy sport program, plus another four high achievers, based on achievements between January last year and April this year.
Ward said said the nominees as a collective had competed in state, national and international competitions, amassing four medals at international level, 16 medals at national level and medalling 11 times at state level.
“These athletes have also achieved many other varying accomplishments, as well as being exceptional role models for other WestVic athletes and their communities,” he said.
The academy supports 139 athletes across 23 sports, providing services such as specialist coaching, weekly strength and conditioning, sport science opportunities, sport psychology, nutrition and personal development; plus mentoring.
Ward said 52 athletes supported by WestVic competed at national level or equivalent last year.
He said Ballarat Sportsmen’s Club had been a significant supporter of the academy since 2015.
