On Thursday, the AFL released the fixture for the competition and in a great advertisement for Ballarat football, both St Pat’s and Mount Clear College will be hosting matches.
It is the first time the tournament has featured a ‘school round.’
All matches taking place at the two school’s will be held on Wednesday, August 9.
Round two of the men’s division one fixture will see Papua New Guinea face off against France at Mount Clear College at 12.30pm. In the same time slot, the Irish will battle France at St Patrick’s College in a nod to the School’s proud Irish heritage.
In men’s division two action, Pakistan take on Japan at Mount Clear College at 10.45am.
The AFL is continuing its strong support of the development of the women’s game, with eight teams competing in the women’s division one competition.
St Pat’s will also host the Irish women’s team at 10:45am as they challenge the European Crusaders – a combined team with women from Britain, Croatia, France, Germany, Ireland and Italy.
The competition runs every three years with this being the sixth edition. The 2017 AFL International Cup will be played in Melbourne from August 5 to 19. Overall, 18 men’s teams and eight women’s teams will be on show.
