Twenty students from Guangdong Baiyun University in China began their studies at Federation Business School this week, part of a larger group of 75 Chinese students to study here for the rest of the year.
“We are delighted to welcome students from Guangdong Baiyun University. These students remind us that we are part of a global community,” said Federation Business School executive dean Associate Professor Bob O’Shea.
Students in China study FedUni’s Advanced Diploma of Business in conjunction with their Chinese diploma, and at the end of their course can come to Ballarat to study further to complete a business degree.
Students from Baiyun University have been coming to FedUni for the past four years, and staff from Federation University travel to China to teach some of the university courses.
The Chinese university is also keen to collaborate on business, IT, engineering, international studies and social work.
Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Partnerships) Dr Jessie Harman said international students bought new social and cultural perspectives to the university.
“Through their presence, our domestic students learn more about China, its culture and language, and these things are very important in today’s globally connected world.”
