Not-for-profit housing organisation Community Housing Ltd was selected from a number of company expressions of interest to take over management of Hepburn Shire community housing properties.
The organisation provides rental housing at a subsidised market rent to the most vulnerable in the community.
Hepburn Shire Council general manager of community services Kathleen Brannigan said Community Housing (Vic) Ltd. was selected for expertise in management and an understanding of the needs in Hepburn Shire.
Nine properties in Trentham and Daylesford will change hands and six properties in Clunes will change management only under the new agreement.
Community Housing Ltd will develop four new community housing properties in Clunes, a move that was made a requirement of the council transfer.
Hepburn Shire mayor Sebastian Klein said it was hoped changed management would improve affordable housing in the shire.
“Housing associations are much better placed to manage these properties than councils are,” he said.
“Hopefully it will have an improved outcome for affordable housing in our shire.”
Council’s intention to transfer the properties was publicly advertised after an agreement at a council meeting in April, but no community submissions were received.
Community Housing Ltd will meet all transfer costs according to a council report.
