The EPA was alerted to the fire on May 17 which left a plume of black smoke above the Learmonth Street premises.
The company had burned a 5x3m pile of industrial waste which included timber pallets, wooden boxes, about 15 empty plastic oil drums and some hoses.
In a statement EPA South West manager Carolyn Francis said the company had “tried to take a short cut” by burning the waste instead of disposing of it appropriately.
“Disposing of the material legally through recycling or taking to an appropriate landfill would have cost the company much less than the fine amount,” Ms Francis said.
The company has since advised the EPA it has changed its practices when disposing of industrial waste.
Scobie’s Service Centre has been contacted for comment.
