A statewide ‘clear the shelters’ campaign saw 75 cats, dogs and rabbits adopted from Ballarat RSPCA and Pets Place over three days.

Every single animal at Ballarat RSPCA has been adopted, and only three animals are in need of a home at Pets Place. Still available for adoption are a three-legged male cat, Touro, a five-year-old miniature pinscher cross named Bliss and Max, an eight-year-old staffordshire cross. 

Pets Place staff had hoped to rehome the 21 animals in their care before the centre closed on August 31. 

Overall the centre rehomed 48 animals, including pets transferred from Portland, Warnambool and the Ballarat centre.

Statewide 479 animals were adopted.

“Rehoming 48 animals over just three days was massive. It was a mammoth task by the whole team – both staff and volunteers – and there is a real sense of satisfaction that these animals are now in their forever homes,” Pets Place assistant manager Lyn Zboril said.

RSPCA may still transfer more animals to Pets Place before August 31. 

RSPCA chief executive Liz Walker said the result was “outstanding”. 

"RSPCA Victoria will continue to see many more animals requiring care, rehabilitation and rehoming,” Dr Walker said. 

“However, it's comforting to know that so many Victorians share our passion to give these animals a second chance."

Pets Place will close on August 31.
