With two games remaining in the Victorian Netball League season, it is crunch time for the division one outfit as it looks to hold onto a spot in the top four ahead of finals.
The division side is six points clear of fifth-placed Southern Saints therefore a victory on Sunday against second-placed Cougars would secure a finals berth.
Championship assistant and division one coach Kim Bailey said a key focus at training throughout the week had been on its defensive pressure given Geelong’s swift ball movement.
The Cougars sit in the top four in all grades and quick ball movement is a feature across all grades.
“They’re one of the powerhouses in the VNL,” Bailey said.
“Our defensive pressure will have to be spot on so we can create turnovers up the court.”
The only change to the championship side will be the exclusion of Rene Caris who has pneumonia. Championship is searching for its fourth win of the season.
Meanwhile the 19/under outfit will be without some players who will be representing Ballarat Grammar in the Herald Sun Shield grand final at the MCG.
Sovereigns are excited to again play in front of a home crowd and is expecting a healthy turnout.
