Bacchus Marsh, Lake Wendouree, Darley, Redan and Sunbury each conquered strong blustering winds and their opposition.
Darley’s 37-point win over East Point was the closest margin of the day.
With goals difficult to come by, Melton South’s 7.10 (52) against Bacchus Marsh was the highest losing score.
East Point and Melton each had to wait until the second half to kick a goal.
With nothing changing at the top end of the ladder, Sunbury was the big winner.
The Lions’ 61-point win over Ballarat at Sunbury gives it a two-game break over sixth-placed East Point and with four rounds to go looking a certainty to play finals.
Sunbury plays Melton and Darley before a bye and then meeting Sebastopol in the last round.
The battle for a top two position and the double chance remains as tight as ever as does the four-way battle for sixth.
While losses to East Point, Melton South, Melton and North Ballarat City did not hurt their chances to play finals, the defeats indicate that whichever one of the quartet secures sixth will be struggling to have any impact – facing third in an elimination final.
