Carroll and fellow Olympian Victoria Na ran an all-girls clinic at Ken Kay Badminton Centre on Tuesday as a number of year 7 girls from Ballarat took part.
Carroll competed at the 2006 Commonwealth Games and Beijing’s 2008 Olympics. She is now a physical education teacher at Melbourne’s Maribyrnong Sports Academy.
Carroll said it was great to be getting young girls active and hopefully some will adopt badminton as their chosen sport.
“Get some girls active and involved in badminton (is the aim),” Carroll said.
“I grew up playing here so it’s good to see other kids doing the same thing.”
Carroll recalled winning a competition with 3AW radio to hit with two Olympians as a youngster.
“That’s really what inspired me to go and be an Olympian. Remembering that, if I can give back and hopefully inspire some new juniors to play – that’d be great.”
