For many, Chequers in Central Square has been the go to location for lunch time chips and gravy along with a range of other hot treats.
Now those craving the taste of Chequers later in the day can find it on Creswick road.
“That one (Central Square Chequers) has been in Ballarat for 23 years and we’ve owned that one for three and a half years,” Owner Angela Finch said of the Central Square store.
“But the whole purpose of this one is so we can offer Chequers’ chips and gravy, at night time. So our main trade, we’re open during the day too obviously, is going to be at night time.
“It really came down to why not? Why not expand and have the option to do nights which we can’t do there because the centre closes at 5:30pm.”
But never fear, those craving the familiar taste at Central Square will still be able to find it. The store there is going great, owners said, so it’s not going anywhere.
“We just wanted to expand into night trade. When this shop came up we thought well there doesn’t seem to be many food outlets here. Well, here we go. Why not push into that dinner market,” owner Shane Finch said.
Along with iconic chips and gravy, the cafe offers a range of food including salad rolls, pies, sausage rolls and coffee.
“Basically anything you can think of that a fish and chips sells, we have here. Baked potatoes. That’s one of our big things,” Ms Finch said.
With lunch from 10am-2pm and dinner from 4:30-8:30pm, the new Chequers store can be found at 25 Creswick Road, opposite Aldi.
