Twins Will and Georgina Stephens and best mate James Pedersen pulled together as a band just over a year ago and have already played gigs around Ballarat, Melbourne and Bendigo.
Will has played drums from the age of 10 and James has been playing guitar for years, but Georgina only picked up the bass a little over a year ago at the urging of her musician father.
“Georgina and I are twins and she was always the smart one and I was the musical one,” Will said. “Then because Phoenix didn’t have many people playing music she started playing bass and because dad is in to music he taught her a couple of songs which she learned in a day, so I asked if she wanted to start a band.
The trio share vocal duties on stage and often have musical friends, including rappers and a bagpipe player, join them.
The 17-year-olds often play pub gigs, but because they are under age their parents must accompany them.
The band usually rehearse once a week, but with the finals of the Battle of the Bands competition at Karova Lounge on Sunday they’ve upped it to a few times a week, around the twins’ year 12 studies and James’ university sound engineering studies.
