Suicide has been heavily stigmatised, making it difficult for people struggling with their mental health, or their families and friends, to talk about it.
The annual event aims to raise money for the Suicide Prevention Network as well as awareness about the issue.
This year’s cash will be put towards a much needed safe talk centre to help people struggling.
Network chair Leading Senior Constable Des Hudson said suicide affected everyone in the community in some way.
“Suicide does not know any particular demographic of the community,” he said.
“It has the potential to affect all levels of the community.
“Everyone will have the ability to participate, everyone will be able to share in the conversation about suicide.”
There are 50 tickets still remaining for people who want to attend the dance.
They cost $65 and can be purchased through the Beat ‘N’ Blues Eventbrite page.
The ticket covers meals, with drinks at bar prices.
The network will also pursue its goal to educate 100 people a year about suicide.
Cash raised from the Beat ‘N’ Blues night will go directly to this cause.
Leading Senior Constable Hudson said the event was open to anyone, whether they had been affected by suicide or not.
“Come out embrace the Ballarat winter and know you are doing so for a very worthy cause,” he said.
“It is an upbeat night, it is about people coming together.
“We will have silent auctions and some larger auctions items as well.”
Ballarat artist Josh Muir, known for White Night, has donated a significant art piece titled Dream, valued by MARS Gallery at $6000.
The piece was just one of the many items that will be up for grabs on the night.
“We know many people would like to do something to prevent suicide,” Leading Senior Constable Hudson said.
“This is the opportunity to gather a table together and have a great night out.”
