The Victorian Rabbit Action Network community action grants provide funds to support rabbit management activities. Community groups can apply for $2000 to $5000 grants.
Victorian Rabbit Action Network chair Gerald Leach said community groups who may be planting trees and restoring landscapes should consider the impact of wild rabbits.
“I strongly recommend addressing your rabbit issue first, so your restoration project is successful in the long term,” he said.
Wild rabbits can be destructive in Victoria, damaging cultural heritage, biodiversity and agricultural production systems. A new virus was released in March to help reduce their impact.
“The 2017 grants program will enable communities to enhance the impact of the virus by adding other control measures to the mix,” Mr Leach said.
