A pack of 28 Samoyeds, plus three other pooch friends, gathered at Pipers By the Lake with their humans for a walk near Lake Wendouree and into the Ballarat Botanical Gardens on Sunday.
Together, they proved quite a sight for lake-goers and there were plenty of stops for sniffs and chats along the way. They returned to Pipers for lunch and the dog-friendly menu.
The meet was the first Ballarat outing for the Samoyed Club of Victoria, which hosts months walks in varying locations in Melbourne, Geelong, Torquay, Queenscliff and Daylesford.
Samoyeds were originally used to hunt, herd reindeer and haul sleds for the Samoyede people they served in north-west Siberia. The breed was brought out of Siberia at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century to pull sledges on Arctic and Antarctic expeditions
