Well-known street artists Paul Round and Michael Porter received a grant to help young people with a passion for street and aerosol art create a new mural to deter graffiti vandalism in Sebastopol.
About 20 young people aged 12 – 18 worked with the Melbourne street artists to cover the wall of the Beverin St building, owned by Ballarat and District Aboriginal Corporation, with their giant mural.
The mural itself was painted in a day with a design to reflect the local community identity and reflect its social and cultural mix.
“It’s great to see support for a community project for young people being creative,” Mr Round said.
Buninyong MP Geoff Howard said the program would help reduce graffiti by engaging young people in the design of murals, giving them a sense of ownership of community spaces.
