AFL Victoria general manager Steven Reaper says there is “some chance” the Roosters will not be in the competition next year.
Reaper, speaking in an interview with Channel 7, said North Ballarat was still working through its prospects for next year, with AFL Victoria to make a decision in the “coming weeks”.
He said there was a lot of water to go under the bridge before a decision was made, with issues still to be worked through.
He said any club in the competition needed to be sustainable – “that’s a real key point”.
Reaper said Frankston, which has been readmitted to the VFL after a year in recess, had had its difficulties, but had turned things around with a strong regional and community focus.
He said AFL Victoria would like to think that in time North Ballarat could also have a strong regional structure like what Frankston had set up.
