The two teams occupy the two bottom rungs on the ladder with just one win each.
The Roosters lost to Collingwood last week after an 8.2 – 0.0 opening term while the Lions were belted by Port Melbourne to the tune of 160 points.
Roosters coach Marc Greig said he expected a fierce response from Coburg.
“Don’t just think because they’re coming off a 160-point loss they’re going to roll over and say ‘here you go Roosters, here’s a five-goal start,” Greig said.
“It’s at Coburg and they’ve been good there for a number of years.”
Coburg is also a young side but do have some capable senior players with the likes of Ryan Exon and Ben Allan. Greig said his group would continue to focus more on its own game.
“We still want to spend a bit of time on them, like we do with other teams, but we want to make sure that we really focus on ourselves.”
