The school has since released a statement, saying staff enacted emergency management procedures upon discovering “a piece of military history” about 10.30am.
“College staff immediately removed it to the main oval, away from staff and students and notified police,” a spokesman said.
“Investigations quickly revealed the device was inert.
“Following advice from Victoria Police that the device was safe, the college removed it and reopened all areas of the college for business as usual.”
Two police officers picked up the military artifact in a green bag, taking it away about 11.20am.
The student had brought the artifact to school as part of a project.
No classes were affected.
