East Point produced a huge last quarter to defeat North Ballarat City by 15 points, while Melton South edged past Melton by seven points on Saturday.
Final scores:
East Point 17.8 (110) d North Ballarat City 14.11 (95) at the Eastern Oval.
Melton South 13.7 (85) d Melton 12.6 (78).
The Kangaroos trailed by 10 points at three quarter time and produced arguably their best term of the season.
All four teams went into the round 17 encounters on 28 premiership points, with North Ballarat holding down sixth.
With the lowest percentage, Melton’s loss puts it out of the finals race with the one round to play.
East Point moves into sixth ahead of Melton South on percentage, with North Ballarat now a game adrift in eighth.
All three remain well and truly alive.
Melton South faces Darley bext round, East Point meets Lake Wendouree and North Ballarat City takes on Melton.
In other games, Darley ran away with a dominant second half to defeat Ballarat by 57 points at Alfredton – 15.17 (107) d Ballarat 7.8 (50) and Bacchus Marsh crushed Sebastopol 22.28 (160) to 1.3 (9) at Maddingley Park.
This keeps Darley safely in third position, while for Ballarat its season is over with a bye in the last round.
