Running on August 25 and 26, the films featured in this 2017 event range between a variety of genres.
“This is the 10th film festival. We have four films that will be screeened, including one children’s film,” Ballarat Italian Assoication President Chez Dichiera said.
On Friday night, the 2016 production, The Space Between, will kick the festival off.
A dramatic collaboration between Italian and Australian film makers, the movie examines the relationship between ex chef Marco (Flavio Parenti), who has devoted his life to care for his sick father and Australian design hopeful Olivia (Maeve Dermody), when their paths cross at the city of Udine.
Era d’estate will screen on Saturday afternoon and tells the story of two very different judges seeking protection from the mafia on the island of Sardinia.
The comedy Quo Vado will play on Saturday night. The film, which sold more tickets than Star Wars: The Force Awakens did in Italy, takes a comedic approach to an Italian dream career in public service.
“We normally select movies from those shown at the Lavazza film festival and these were shown in 2016. They’re fairly current. No more two years old.” Mr Dichiera said.
The movies are all subtitled and Mr Dichiera said membership in the Association is open to all.
“We’ve had up to 150 members and we currently have functions on a monthly basis and lunches and bus trips to Melbourne,” he said.
“You don’t have to be Italian to be a member to of association. We have a number of members who are learning the language and just love the culture.”
Films for the event will all be screened at the Museum of Australian Democracy at Eureka, 102 Stawell Street South with finger food provided by the Saltbush Kitchen.
