With a reputation as a classy onballer who has represented Victoria Country and been on Geelong’s list, it didn't surprise when Chapman starred week in, week out for the Grasshoppers.
And his stellar season was rewarded with The Courier player of the year honour on Wednesday night.
Despite missing the opening couple of games, Chapman polled 33 votes during the home and away rounds to finish three clear of Ballan coach Jason McNamara. Learmonth onballer Scott Whiting was a further two votes behind in third.
The Courier player of the year is decided with a 3-2-1 voting system, awarded by opposition clubs.
Also on Wednesday night, Buninyong collected another Merv and Mary Howard Memorial Trophy as the league’s most successful club in 2017.
Decided using a scaled points system for wins across all grades of football and netball during the season, the Bombers topped the leaderboard from Hepburn and Springbank.
