Butler has enjoyed a breakout season this year after being drafted in 2014.
The 21-year-old battled injury and hot competition for spots in the Richmond forward line for the first two seasons of his career before playing 19 so far in 2017.
Butler has kicked 24 goals and earned a Rising Star nomination this year playing a major role in providing the forward-line pressure that has become a trademark of the finals-bound Tigers' game style.
Richmond general manager of football talent Dan Richardson said this season was reward for Butler’s hard work.
“Dan has shown great perseverance and after making his debut in Round 1 – he has played 19 senior games this year,” Richardson said.
Midfielder Kane Lambert was also extended until 2019.
