Thomson, who joined the club last year, will take over from Darren Fletcher, who will continue playing as well as his role as director of cricket.
Thomson, who captained the twenty20 side last season, was excited to take on the role and hoped he could emulate the feats of the decorated skippers before him.
“The club has a really strong history and hopefully I can make some history myself,” Thomson said.
“There’s been some great captains at Mt Clear previously, so hopefully I can be at their level and maybe even push past some of them.”
Thomson said he would take an attacking mindset into his captaincy.
“I think I’ll be pretty attacking with field placements and strategies.
“The best way to keep teams to a low score is by getting them out.”
Having retained all of last year’s first XI and added some quality players since, Thomson was optimistic about the season ahead.
