But it’s fair to say Alan Ware has got the hang of winning grand finals.
The Hepburn veteran has played in all five of the Burras’ Central Highlands Football League premierships since 2004.
The 2004, 2005, 2008 and 2010 triumphs came under Shane Robertson – two of which he captained – with the 2013 win during Clive Raak’s tenure. Now he has a chance at a sixth under current senior coach Jason Olver.
“I never had any success as a junior so it’s a fair shock to turn around and be able to play five,” Ware said.
The 31-year-old has been a pillar in the Hepburn defence for years and is looking forward to reaching another significant milestone before his playing days come to an end.
“I’m not far away from 300 (games). If I play next year, I’ll be pretty close to getting 300 if I play every game,” he said.
“I’ll try to get that under the belt and then see what happens from there.”
