After enduring grand final defeats in the previous two seasons, the Bombers put everything on the line for victory.
It was a torrid start and there was lots of push-and-shove against Beaufort on Saturday, but Buninyong stuck to the task at hand.
Adam Scott scored the first goal for the Bombers and they took a slim lead into the second quarter.
Kenny Terry slotted the Bombers’ first major in the second term and was backed up by Connor O’Keefe before the half time break.
James Slater booted Beaufort’s only major for the half as the Crows trailed Buninyong by two goals going into the main break.
The Crows rattled off four behinds in a row starting the third term before big man Scott Howard finally kicked truly.
A quick goal from the Crows’ Tom LeLievre put Beaufort ahead briefly before Bomber veteran Mark Phelps scored and wrested the game back.
Phelps energised the Bombers crowd with another goal shortly after and at the last change Buninyong was nine points ahead.
The Crows peppered the goals in the final term, levelling the scores with a Howard goal and a rushed behind.
But the Bombers dug deep and little by little pulled back the advantage to fall over the line by eight points.
Scott was judged the best on ground.
He was in good company with David Kelly, Josh Finley and Lachie Burbidge mopping up down back and Josh Mann commanding the centre.
Beaufort’s best included Luke Ward, Digby Sangster, Steven Lodge and coach AJ Beer.
Buninyong coach Clinton Palmer breathed a big sigh of relief after the final siren.
“It was a very tight game, wasn’t it? We got a roll on and the ascendancy. It was an arm wrestle all day and we were just lucky to get a couple of goals at the end. Snatched a (grand final) win finally,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Hepburn capped off a stellar year in the under-18s by thrashing Springbank to the tune of 139 points.
Unbeaten all year, the Burras steamrolled the Tigers from go-to-whoa and the trio of Alister Ferrier, Bryce Coffey and Hayden Rodgers were in devastating form.
Top in the season’s goal-kicking list, Ferrier booted nine majors in Saturday’s grand final to put the icing on the cake for 2017.
Best and fairest pair Coffey and Rodgers had a ball blitzing the hapless Springbank side.
Burras skipper Rodgers was named best on ground by the umpires and the applause from the crowd at presentation was unanimous.
It was a big haul for another Hepburn star in Izaac Grant, who amassed six majors.
Other goals came from Nathan Rodgers, Ned Johns, Sam Sinclair, Kyle Yanner, Hayden Rodgers, Jimmy Wallesz, Jordan Grant and Coffey.
Burras Jordan Barnes and Jay Rasic had lots of crowd support.
Scott Baldwin and Luke Boers were the only goal-kickers for the Tigers, which were best served by Micah Darby, James Spicer and Kieran Maher.
Before that defeat, the Springbank army was in full voice after claiming its first Central Highlands Football League under-15 premiership.
Hepburn had beaten Springbank during the season by 15 points, but had no answer to the solid, pacy Tigers in the grand final.
In the end, the Tigers won by 30 points.
Best on ground was Springbank’s Sam Hanrahan, who slipped easily out of the centre in clearances.
It was heartbreaking for Hepburn, which failed to make any headway on the scoreboard, kicking five behinds all up.
Best for the Burras was Sage Eguchi, who tackled hard, and solid defenders Ryan Theisz and Shannon Harraghy.
