A woman has died in a single-vehicle smash along the Midland Highway this morning.
Victoria Police released the following statement:
Police are currently at the scene of a fatal collision in Gheringhap this morning.
Police believe the vehicle ran off the road and collided with a tree on the Midland Highway around 11.20am.
The female driver and only occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.
The investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information or who witnessed the collision is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
EARLIER:
A section of the Midland Highway has been closed between Bannockburn and Batesford in both directions following a serious single-vehicle crash about 11.20am.
It’s believed a woman’s car lost control before crashing into a tree along the busy roadway near Gheringhap.
A spokesman for Ambulance Victoria said paramedics were on scene treating the woman, who is in a critical condition.
An air ambulance has landed at the scene.
