ABC Ballarat and Bicycles for Humanity have called for old bicycles and bike parts to be donated, which will then be refurbished and sent to Namibia where the shipping container they came in transforms in to a bike workshop providing employment, skills, training, economic development and other ongoing benefits for the community.
Local organiser Jamie Chan said bikes changed lives in developing nations, offering access to education, employment, health care and other freedoms.
The ABC Ballarat Bicycles for Humanity Collection Day runs from 9am to 2pm on October 5 at the Catholic Diocese Ballarat (opposite the ABC in South Dawson St).
