Wellings polled 426 votes to claim the Adam Goodes Trophy ahead of Aiden Domic, 353 votes, and Flynn Appleby with 291 votes.
Wellings was honoured to receive the award and it comes off the back of a year that has had its challenges with injury, but his dedication is something that has made the versatile midfielder a highly-respected Rebel.
“I’m really humbled to get the award, I think anyone who got it would be a deserving winner,” Wellings said.
“In any football career you’re going to face diversity and some challenges.
“I was very happy (with my season). I knew I had to make some improvements from last year...I feel pretty happy to say I put in the effort, it’s an award to show that.”
Wellings said it was hard to not think about the National Draft, but there was no more he could do to push his case for draft selection. Wellings could not test at last week’s state-level combine due to a hip flexor injury, but he has shown AFL clubs plenty over the last 18 months.
I’m really humbled to get the award.

“It obviously plays a big part on your mind. We’re in the dark for a little bit now until draft night...you think about it, but just try and relax for a couple of week.”
The AFL National Draft will be held on November 24.
