Brendan Fevola - recovering from Achilles surgery

Melton South is confident Brendan Fevola will make a full recovery from foot surgery in time to begin the 2018 Ballarat Football League on schedule.

Fevola went under the knife this week to repair issues in the vicinity of his left heel.

Sean Triplett, who coached the Panthers in partnership with Fevola this year, said the Achilles region had been an issue most of last season.

Triplett likened the ailment to a bone spur.

He said Fevola was always going to have surgery in readiness for next year.

However, Fevola stated on Instagram that his winning effort in the AFL grand final day longest kick competition did “some damage.”

The surgery came after he kicked 10 goals in a “Relive the Rivalry” charity match in Tasmania at the weekend.

Triplett told The Courier that he did not believe the surgery would delay Fevola’s start to next season.

“He’ll be right.”

Fevola is already set to miss Melton South’s first two home and away assignments owing to a two-match suspension incurred after the last round.

Fevola will again be a joint coach at Melton South, but not alongside Triplett.

Triplett has stepped aside to allow Ash Manning to take on the role.

Manning joined the Panthers mid-season this year to assist after resigning as head coach at Lancefield in the Riddell District league.

Triplett has remained with the club to head up what is again expected to be a lively recruiting campaign as it strives to play finals again.
