The match got under way at 2.30pm, two-and-a-half hours after the scheduled start time, after the pitch had not dried out since water got under the covers following Wednesday’s rain.
Nonetheless, Naps-Sebas, who sent the Lions into bat, took control after day one of the now 65 overs a side match. Darley ended the day at 8-92 from its 53 overs. While Naps-Sebas captain Matthew Ringin was pleased with the day, he felt his side could have been in an even stronger position.
Given Lions gun all-rounder Matt Cape was named on the teamsheet, but missed week one, meant Naps-Sebas needed just one more wicket to end the Darley innings.
“If you said at the start of the day that that was going to be the result we would’ve been happy...but we’ve given them a little chance to get back in the game,” Ringin said.
“We knew that it was going to be a delayed start, our boys were out warming up, keeping their head in the game...it was reward for a good mentality for our guys.”
Brad Barnes top-scored with 39 runs while Liam Rigby, Matthew Ringin and Justin Ringin all took two wickets in an even bowling display.
